Blackbeard- Red Lamp/Old Man

May 5th, 2005

This vinyl consists of two tracks from the recent Funk Mode compilation. Out on Scenario Records, it’s an extremely soulful and funky instrumental affair, ideal for DJ’s looking for new material to incorporate into their set, or the general record enthusiast looking to add a laid back and easy going release to their crates.

‘Red Lamp’ is originally by Patucchi, now reworked by Blackbeard. It starts a little monotonously, with the same loop for quite some time, but gradually moves its way into some very chilled sounds. There’s some gentle trumpets, flute, jazzy drums and a warm baseline. ‘Old Man’ is originally by Blackbusters. The reworking has a simple drum intro that is soon layered amongst some smooth sci-fi shooting sounds and guitar. Later on in the track, some vocal samples are economically included, creating a slight Funkadelic vibe. Some shakers, a whistle and then a return to the simple opening drums rounds the track off nicely.
