United Vibrations

A very short chat with Dougie of the exciting new live hip-hop outfit about their intentions, how they formed and their first EP

Last summer some dudes hooked up and jammed in the blazing heat. The vibes were funky and soon became a weekly experience. Dudes came, dudes went and after a while, a group had formed. They’ve performed at various spots including appearing alongside GM Baby at Peace Not War. Their name is United Vibrations and here’s the download with drummer Doug Currie.

How did you link up with GM Baby for peace not war and will there be more collaborations?

We met Hayden from GMBaby, and after chatting, liked the sound of what each of us was doing. After rehearsing together a while, the Ocean gig came up. GM Baby kindly asked us to perform with them, and the rest is history. With regards to future collaborations, we’re playing a gig with them on Saturday 20th March @ bar Lorca in Brixton (peace not war), and maybe more to come.

What are your main aims and goals?

Putting the instrument back into hip-hop instrumentals? No! Not exactly… genres not important! We’re looking to have a great time, get people dancing and having fun, and who knows, maybe play a few festivals along the way too!

What artists/collectives are you feeling that do what you do. Feeling The Roots?

Yes, love the Roots, but truth is, the list of artists we feel would be endless! We appreciate music that inspires.

Are you signed or looking for a deal? Are there any releases out or in the pipe line that we can check for?

We have a four track E.P. entitled “One Tree Hill”, recorded just before New Year, available from direct from us unitedvibrations@hotmail.com. Samples of the E.P. can be downloaded from needleandthread.org (check the sounds page). Currently working on new material, which we aim to have recorded by the summer, but look out for it live! We’re unsigned, been together a hectic six months, during which fate has been on our side! Serious offers will be considered!.....

UV United Vibrations is a collection of musicians who are as different as their styles and backgrounds. We don’t see ourselves in any particular category of music, because we embrace them all. Our mission is to create some bangin’ tunes, and pass that vibe onto others.

United Vibrations (UV) are Ahmad Dayes (trombone), Doug Currie (drums), Sam Nankivell (keys), Kareem Dayes (bass), Miles James (guitar), Len Kvalheim (sax), and Oggie (vocals).
