Ahead of a mix CD and double EP release in 2006, Smokey, a member of The Phobia, drops this taster single, which uses the same lyrics from the original which was recorded some four years ago. Now the dude's 20, and is joined by Bobby Drake. Over a head nodding beat which uses some cool piano and drums, both vocalists spit confidently and sustain the listeners attention throughout. It sounds pretty fresh and clearly demonstrates the skills of both guys, as well as Smokey's production skills which are very promising. On the 7", there's also 'Smokey Spits Remix' which is of another piano based beat which Smokey covers with quite pacey vocals showcasing a solid flow of decent words. 'Call Of The Wild' again featuring Bobby Drake, as well as General Knowledge and Kal Sereousz, has an atmospheric beat of church bells and strings. This is probably the release's highlight. The flow's are tight, the lyrics are of a high quality, there's some nice cuts thrown in and a sense of a young but talented crew that are certain to develop and put out serious material. It's surely worth record collectors picking this up so they can cash in on it via Ebay three years from now when these guys are well known MC's on the scene. This drops on Bare Records, 5th of December.
